Turkey – Urban renewal, but who is going to profit?

There is not much left of the Roma district of Sulukule, which used to be so colourful. For years, thousands of Roma from all over the world lived in this historic settlement in the Turkish capital of Istanbul. Because of urban renewal they were forced to leave Sulukule.

Israel – The after-effects of ‘Operation Cast Lead’

The town of Abed Rabbo was heavily bombed during ‘Operation Cast Lead’, the military conflict between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas that took place in 2008 and 2009 in the Gaza Strip. The town’s inhabitants lost their homes and their possessions.

Chad – Eviction cancelled

The intervention of several non-governmental organisations such as Amnesty International and the Chadian ‘Human Rights without Borders’ has convinced the Chadian authorities that it would be better to move the building project planned for the district of Ambatta to another location.
